Acute Megakaryoblastic Leukemia Cells (AMKLC)

Acute megakaryoblastic leukemia (AMKL) is a form of leukemia where a majority of the blasts are megakaryoblastic. It is classified under AML-M7 category of the French-American-British classification. It is associated with GATA1, and risks are increased in individuals with Down syndrome. A megakaryoblastic cell line, designated MEG-01, was established from the bone marrow of a patient with blast crisis of Philadelphia (Ph1) chromosome-positive chronic myelogenous leukemia. MEG-01 cell line may provide a useful model for the study of human megakaryopoiesis and of the biosynthetic mechanisms of proteins unique to megakaryocytic lineage.
