3-Hydroxymethyl-3-Methylglutaryl Coenzyme A Lyase Like Protein 1 (HMGCLL1)
Ketogenic metabolism has been associated with mitochondria, which contain HMG-CoA synthase, HMG-CoA lyase, and 3-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase.
A bioinformatic approach has identified several mammalian proteins, designated as HMGCLL1 (HMG-CoA lyase like), as putative members of the HMG-CoA lyase family. These proteins are characterized by a unique 37 residue N-terminus that contains a potential myristoylation site but not a mitochondrial leader sequence. In order to test the function of these proteins, full length human HMGCLL1 coding sequence has been isolated from a MGC repository clone and introduced into expression vectors. HMGCLL1 could function as an extramitochondrial HMG-CoA lyase.
