A Disintegrin And Metalloprotease 7 (ADAM7)
The ADAM family is composed of zinc-binding proteins that can function as adhesion proteins and/or endopeptidases. They are involved in a number of biologic processes, including fertilization, neurogenesis, muscle development, and immune response.
By genomic sequence analysis, Bates et al. (2002) determined that the ADAM7 gene contains 22 exons.May play an important role in male reproduction including sperm maturation and gonadotrope function.
By genomic sequence analysis, Bates et al. (2002) mapped the ADAM7 gene to a metalloprotease gene cluster on chromosome 8p12 that also contains the ADAMDEC1 and ADAM28 genes.
