A Disintegrin And Metalloproteinase With Thrombospondin 16 (ADAMTS16)

ADAM Metallopeptidase With Thrombospondin Type 1 Motif 16

A Disintegrin And Metalloproteinase With Thrombospondin 16 (ADAMTS16)
ADAMTS16 is a member of the large ADAMTS family of zinc-dependent proteases. The deduced protein contains an N-terminal signal peptide, followed by a propeptide; a metalloprotease catalytic domain that includes the Zn-binding motif; a disintegrin-like domain; a central thrombospondin I (THBS1)-like motif; a cysteine-rich domain; a spacer region; and 3 C-terminal THBS1 repeats. It also has 7 N-glycosylation sites. ADAMTS16 shares 57% sequence identity with ADAMTS18, including 85% identity within the catalytic domains. PCR analysis revealed that ADAMTS16 is expressed in fetal lung and kidney and in adult prostate and ovary.Rat Adamts16, which encodes a 1,221-amino acid protein, and they detected prominent expression in rat kidney as well as thymus, lung, heart, liver and spleen.
