ADP Ribosylation Factor Like Protein 5 (ARL5)

ARL5A; ARFLP5

ADP Ribosylation Factor Like Protein 5 (ARL5)
ARL5 encodes a predicted 179-amino acid protein that contains 4 conserved motifs critical for guanine nucleotide binding and hydrolysis, and a C-terminal consensus ARF motif. Northern blot hybridization showed ubiquitous expression of an approximately 4-kb ARL5 transcript, with highest expression in heart. Northern blot analysis showed that ARL5 was upregulated in 5 of 12 liver tumor samples. In addition, ARL5 contains a C-terminal putative bipartite nuclear localization signal (NLS). Northern blot analysis of mouse Arl5 showed strong expression of a 1.4-kb transcript in liver, with weaker expression in heart, lung, kidney, and testis. Arl5 expression in whole mouse embryos measured by Northern blot analysis was strong at embryonic day 7 but barely detectable by embryonic day 11.
