APAF1 Interacting Protein (APIP)

APAF1 Interacting Protein (APIP)
APIP is an APAF1-interacting protein that acts as a negative regulator of ischemic/hypoxic injury. The deduced APIP protein contains 204 amino acids. A putative alternatively spliced APIP isoform called APIP2 was identified by database analysis and encodes a deduced 242-amino acid protein differing at the N terminus. A putative mouse ortholog, Apip, shares more similarity with the APIP2 isoform. Northern blot analysis of human tissues detected a 1.2-kb transcript in most adult tissues with high expression in skeletal muscle, heart, and kidney.overexpression of APIP suppressed apoptotic activity in mitochondrial-mediated apoptosis, and further determined that an APIP core region of residues 16 through 204 is required for APIP antiapoptotic activity.
