ATP Binding Cassette Transporter F2 (ABCF2)
ABCF2 is a member of the superfamily of ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters. ABC proteins transport various molecules across extra- and intracellular membranes. Immunohistochemical analysis revealed that epithelial cells on the surface of normal ovaries or endometriotic cysts had no cytoplasmic or nuclear expression of ABCF2. In contrast, ABCF2 protein was detected in both the cytoplasm and nuclear compartment of cancer cells in 19 of 22 clear cell cases examined. Among 15 serous cell cases, 3 showed both cytoplasmic and nuclear ABCF2 expression, 4 showed only nuclear expression, and 1 showed only cytoplasmic expression. ABCF2 cytoplasmic staining was significantly higher in clear cell ovarian cancers that did not respond to platinum-based chemotherapy than in those that did respond.
