ATPase Class I Type 8B3 (ATP8B3)

ATPIK; Potential Phospholipid-Transporting ATPase IK

ATPase Class I Type 8B3 (ATP8B3)
ATP8B3 belongs to the family of P-type cation transport ATPases, and to the subfamily of aminophospholipid-transporting ATPases. The aminophospholipid translocases transport phosphatidylserine and phosphatidylethanolamine from one side of a bilayer to another. ATP8B3 encodes the member 3 of the phospholipid-transporting ATPase 8B. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. P-type ATPases, which are phosphorylated in their intermediate state, drive uphill transport of ions across membranes. Several subfamilies of P-type ATPases have been identified. One subfamily transports heavy metal ions, such as Cu(2+) or Cd(2+). Another subfamily transports non-heavy metal ions, such as H(+), Na(+), K(+), or Ca(+).
