ATPase Class I Type 8B4 (ATP8B4)
ATPIM; P4-ATPase flippase complex alpha subunit ATP8B4; Probable phospholipid-transporting ATPase IM
ATP8B4 belongs to the family of P-type cation transport ATPases, and to the subfamily of aminophospholipid-transporting ATPases. The aminophospholipid translocases transport phosphatidylserine and phosphatidylethanolamine from one side of a bilayer to another.
By sequencing clones obtained from a size-fractionated adult amygdala cDNA library, Nagase et al. (2001) cloned ATP8B4, which they designated KIAA1939. The 3-prime UTR of the transcript contains repetitive elements, and the deduced protein contains 1,082 amino acids. RT-PCR ELISA detected intermediate expression in all tissues and specific brain regions examined, with highest expression in spleen, ovary, and fetal liver. Lowest expression was in pancreas, skeletal muscle, and adult and fetal brain.
