Abl Interactor 3 (ABI3)

NESH; SSH3BP3; New molecule including SH3

Abl Interactor 3 (ABI3)
ABI3 encodes a member of an adaptor protein family. Members of this family encode proteins containing a homeobox homology domain, proline rich region and Src-homology 3 (SH3) domain. The encoded protein inhibits ectopic metastasis of tumor cells as well as cell migration. This may be accomplished through interaction with p21-activated kinase.
SH3 domains contain about 50 amino acids that bind to proline-rich sequences and often play a role in cell growth signaling. Sequence analysis predicted that the 366-amino acid NESH protein, which is most homologous to SSH3BP1, has a central serine-rich region followed by a proline-rich region and a C-terminal SH3 domain. RT-PCR analysis detected variable expression of NESH in all tissues tested.
