Acyl Coenzyme A Binding Domain Containing Protein 3 (ACBD3)
ACBD3 encoded by this gene is involved in the maintenance of Golgi structure and function through its interaction with the integral membrane protein giantin. It may also be involved in the hormonal regulation of steroid formation. The deduced 528-amino acid protein has a calculated molecular mass of 60 kD and contains a proline-rich N-terminal domain and an acyl-CoA-binding motif. It has no hydrophobic domains. Northern blot analysis identified a 3.7-kb transcript in all tissues examined, with highest expression in testis and ovary. Western blot analysis showed ubiquitous expression and immunologic identity of GOLPH1 in cell lines from several mammalian species. Immunolocalization revealed that GOLPH1 colocalizes with giantin to the juxtanuclear region in COS-1 and HeLa cells.
