Acyl Malonyl Condensing Enzyme 1 (AMAC1)

AMAC-1 belongs to the group of CC-Chemokines and is related most closely to MIP-1-alpha. The factor has been described as PARC, MIP-4, or DC-CK1. For a modified form of MIP-4 see: Ck-beta-7. The gene consists of three exons. The promoter contains two possible transcription start points and several putative regulatory sequences for IL4 and IFN-gamma dependent transcriptional pathways, including STAT6 and STAT1 binding sites and several AP1 and C/EBP elements.

AMAC-1 is induced specifically in macrophages by IL4, IL13, and IL10. Expression of AMAC-1 is inhibited by IFN-gamma. Glucocorticoids exert a slightly positive synergistic effect in combination with IL4. AMAC-1 is expressed by alveolar macrophages from healthy persons, smokers, and asthmatic patients.
