Adaptor Related Protein Complex 3 Mu 2 (AP3m2)
AP3m2 encodes a subunit of the heterotetrameric adaptor-related protein comlex 3 (AP-3), which belongs to the adaptor complexes medium subunits family. The AP-3 complex plays a role in protein trafficking to lysosomes and specialized organelles. Multiple alternatively spliced variants, encoding the same protein, have been identified.
AP3M2 encodes a deduced protein of 418 amino acids. Northern blot analysis detected ubiquitous expression of a major 3.5-kb transcript and low expression of a minor 1.7-kb transcript in liver, skeletal muscle, kidney, and pancreas.Ap3m2 encodes a 47-kD protein with about 80% amino acid identity to rat Ap3m1and about 30% amino acid identity to mouse mu-1 and rat mu-2 (AP2M1). Ap3m2 was expressed exclusively in rat brain and spinal cord.
