Aldehyde Dehydrogenase 3 Family, Member A2 (ALDH3A2)
Sequence analysis of the 5-prime flanking region of the ALDH10 gene revealed numerous potential binding sites for transcription factors SP1 and AP2 and 1 putative HIP1-binding site. Northern blot analysis detected 4.0- and 2.0-kb ALDH10 transcripts in all human tissues tested, namely brain, heart, lung, liver, pancreas, kidney, skeletal muscle, and placenta. These transcripts are produced via alternative polyadenylation. FALDH is widely expressed as 3 transcripts that originate from multiple polyadenylation signals in the 3-prime untranslated region. ALDH10 (the 'trivial' name) should be changed to ALDH3A2. In this system ALDH is the root symbol; the first arabic numeral indicates the family, the 'A' indicates the subfamily, and the second arabic numeral indicates the individual gene.
