Ankyrin And Armadillo Repeat Containing Protein (ANKAR)

Ankyrin And Armadillo Repeat Containing Protein (ANKAR)
ANKAR contains at least 31 exons and spans about 91 kb. The promoter region in exon 1 contains a TATA box and binding sites for C/EBP-alpha (CEBPA) and TMF (TMF1), whereas the promoter region in exon 2 has binding sites for LEF1 and NFATP (NFATC2), but no typical TATA box.Exons 1 and 2 contain alternate transcriptional start sites, and exons 3 and 4 contain ATG translational start codons. Exons 27 to 31 serve as alternative last exons, and each has at least 1 polyadenylation signal. Further analysis indicated that 1P and 2P have 5 and 6 transmembrane helices, respectively. In addition, 1P has a peroxisomal targeting signal, whereas 2P has an N-terminal endoplasmic reticulum retention signal. ANKAR expression in all tissues examined, with highest expression in pancreas and lowest in skeletal muscle.
