Ankyrin Repeat And SOCS Box Containing Protein 11 (ASB11)

The ASB11 gene is a member of the ankyrin repeat and SOCS box-containing protein family , which contain an N-terminal domain, followed by a varying number of ankyrin repeats, and a C-terminal SOCS box acting as part of a ubiquitin ligase complex. Zebrafish asb11 is a regulator of the neuronal progenitor compartment that enhances cell proliferation and inhibits neurogenesis. Knockdown of asb11 expression in zebrafish embryos resulted in expanded expression of the proneural neurogenin-1 gene (NEUROG1), premature commitment to the neuronal cell lineage, premature postmitotic neuronal differentiation, impaired cell division, and slightly increased apoptosis in the neural tube. Asb11 acts to prevent neuronal commitment by sustaining cell proliferation.
