Ankyrin Repeat And SOCS Box Containing Protein 18 (ASB18)

Ankyrin Repeat And SOCS Box Containing Protein 18 (ASB18)
ASB18, Contains 6 ANK repeats.Contains 1 SOCS box domain. They contain ankyrin repeat sequence and SOCS box domain. The SOCS box serves to couple suppressor of cytokine signalling (SOCS) proteins and their binding partners with the elongin B and C complex, possibly targeting them for degradation. Sequence analysis predicted that the 335-amino acid protein, which is 94% identical to the mouse protein, contains 6 ankyrin repeats and a C-terminal SOCS box. Northern blot analysis of mouse tissues revealed wide expression of a 5.5-kb transcript, with highest expression in testis, spleen, and bone marrow.May be a substrate-recognition component of a SCF-like ECS (Elongin-Cullin-SOCS-box protein) E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase complex which mediates the ubiquitination and subsequent proteasomal degradation of target proteins.
