Early B-Cell Factor 2 (EBF2)

COE2; Transcription factor COE2

Early B-Cell Factor 2 (EBF2)

EBF2 belongs to the conserved Olf/EBF family of helix-loop-helix transcription factors. Ebf2 was expressed in adipose tissue and in immature osteoblastic cells during mouse embryonic development. By assaying human embryonic kidney cells transfected with mouse Ebf2,  Ebf2 could activate transcription of a reporter gene from a promoter containing Olf/EBF binding sites.

Ebf2 was induced about 5-fold during the differentiation of mouse osteoblasts. Ebf2 bound to sequences in the osteoprotegerin gene (OPG) and transactivated the Opg promoter in synergy with the Wnt -responsive Lef1/ beta-catenin  pathway.
