Bcl2 Associated Transcription Factor 1 (BCLAF1)

BTF

Bcl2 Associated Transcription Factor 1 (BCLAF1)
BCLAF1 encodes a transcriptional repressor that interacts with several members of the BCL2 family of proteins. Overexpression of this protein induces apoptosis, which can be suppressed by co-expression of BCL2 proteins. The protein localizes to dot-like structures throughout the nucleus, and redistributes to a zone near the nuclear envelope in cells undergoing apoptosis. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. The deduced BTFl protein contains 920 amino acids and has a calculated molecular mass of 106 kD. The deduced BTFs protein lacks a block of 49 amino acids near the C terminus of BTFl and has a calculated molecular mass of 101 kD. Both isoforms have a basic zipper-type DNA-binding domain near the N terminus and a central MYB-type DNA-binding domain.
