BET1 Homolog (HBET1)

Golgi Vesicular Membrane Trafficking Protein p18; Blocked Early In Transport 1

BET1 Homolog (HBET1)
HBET1 encodes a golgi-associated membrane protein that participates in vesicular transport from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) to the Golgi complex. The encoded protein functions as a soluble N-ethylaleimide-sensitive factor attachment protein receptor and may be involved in the docking of ER-derived vesicles with the cis-Golgi membrane. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described but their full-length nature has not been determined.Antibodies against rat Bet1 inhibited in vitro transport of G protein from the ER to the Golgi apparatus in a dose-dependent manner. This inhibition could be neutralized by preincubation of antibodies with recombinant rat Bet1. EGTA inhibits ER-Golgi transport at a stage after vesicle docking but before the actual fusion event.
