Brain Finger Protein (BFP)
  • The protein, also termed brain finger protein (BFP), was upregulated in P19 embryonic carcinoma cells following retinoic acid-induced differentiation to neural-like derivatives.

  • The authors cloned and sequenced a rat cDNA for BFP, which was then used to screen a human genomic phage library and thus obtain human genomic clones. Sequence analysis showed that 89% of the amino acids and 83% of the DNA residues in human and rat ZNF179/BFP are identical.

  • Matsuda et al. (1996) used the human genomic clones to map ZNF179 to 17p11.2 by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). They also mapped the mouse and rat genes by FISH to regions 11B and 10q22, respectively. See also ZNF173.
