Beta-1,3-N-Acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 2 (b3GALNT2)

UDP-GalNAc:beta-1,3-N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 2

Beta-1,3-N-Acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 2 (b3GALNT2)
B3GALNT2 encodes a putative 500-amino acid protein with a calculated molecular mass of 56.6 kD and typical type II topology as observed for other beta-1,3-glycosyltransferases. B3GALNT2 contains 2 N-glycosylation sites, a transmembrane segment of 19 residues, and a putative stem region and catalytic domain of 479 residues.
B3galnt2 transcripts were mainly detected in the middle layers of seminiferous tubules at stages XII to II. The transcripts were strongly expressed in primary and secondary spermatocytes and early round spermatids, but were not expressed in spermatogonia, elongating or elongated spermatids, or in Leydig or Sertoli cells. Western blot analysis confirmed expression in mouse testis.
