Bone Morphogenetic Protein 8A (BMP8A)

Bone morphogenetic protein 8A (BMP8A) is a polypeptide member of the TGFβ superfamily of proteins. Bone Morphogenetic Proteins (BMPs) are a group of growth factors and cytokines known for their ability to induce the formation of bone and cartilage.

It, like other bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) is involved in the development of bone and cartilage. BMP8A may be involved in epithelial osteogenesis. It also plays a role in bone homeostasis. It is a disulfide-linked homodimer.Induces cartilage and bone formation. May be the osteoinductive factor responsible for the phenomenon of epithelial osteogenesis. Plays a role in calcium regulation and bone homeostasis
