Brain Expressed Protein, X-Linked 1 (BEX1)
NGF treatment did not affect this interaction. the expression pattern of Bex1 during embryonic development showed a remarkable overlap with that of Ngfr throughout the developing nervous system and in the vascular and mesenchymal structures. In cells cotransfected with Bex1 and Ngfr, NGF treatment resulted in translocation of GFP-Bex1 from nucleus to cytoplasm. This effect was dependent on full-length Ngfr. the levels of endogenous Bex1 oscillate through the cell cycle in a pattern that resembles that of Ngfr, maximizing as the cells enter S phase and decreasing as the cells return to G1. Bex1 is phosphorylated at ser105 by the serine-threonine kinase Akt. An increase in Bex1 phosphorylation was observed in PC12 cells treated with Ngf, a stimulus that is known to activate Akt in these cells.
