Nerve Growth Factor Receptor Associated Protein 3 (NADE3)

BEX4 is expressed at very high levels in heart, skeletal muscle, liver, and kidney. Levels of BEX4 expression are uniform throughout the brain. Using immunofluorescence to detect an epitope-tagged protein, Alvarez et al. (2005) found that rat Bex4 localizes to the nucleus and cytoplasm of HEK 293T cells. Based on this subcellular localization, Alvarez et al. (2005) predicted that Bex4 passively diffuses across the nuclear pore complex. By using proteasome inhibitor I, Alvarez et al. (2005) showed that, like rat Bex3 (NGFRAP1), rat Bex4 is degraded by the proteasome.

BEX4, like other members of the BEX gene family, contains 3 exons, with the third exon containing the entire open reading frame and the majority of the transcript.
