Bromodomain Containing Protein 3 (BRD3)

ORFX; RING3L; RING3-like protein

Bromodomain Containing Protein 3 (BRD3)
Bromodomain-containing protein 3 was identified based on its homology to the gene encoding the RING3 protein, a serine/threonine kinase. The gene localizes to 9q34, a region which contains several major histocompatibility complex (MHC) genes. The function of the encoded protein is not known.
RING3 is a gene in the human major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class II region on 6p21.3. Nomura et al. (1994) found a second, non-linked copy of RING3, which they referred to as ORFX. Using a PCR probe derived from the ORFX cDNA sequence, Thorpe et al. (1996) mapped the gene, symbolized here RING3L, by fluorescence in situ hybridization analysis to 9q34. Several other, MHC-related genes have been found to map to the same region.
