C1q And Tumor Necrosis Factor Related Protein 6 (C1QTNF6)
Adiponectin is an important adipokine, which participates in the regulation of energy metabolism. Unlike adiponectin, which is expressed exclusively in adipocytes, C1QTNFs are expressed in a wide variety of tissues and appear to have diverse functions. C1QTNF1, which is expressed by vascular smooth muscle cells, inhibits collagen-induced platelet aggregationand activates Akt and MAPK.
A marker at one other locus, C1QTNF6, previously associated with T1D, showed nominal association with RA in the current study but did not remain statistically significant at the corrected threshold. Of the T1D SNPs tested, only rs229541, mapping to C1QTNF6, showed nominal evidence for association but this did not retain statistical significance at the threshold selected.
