CDC42 Effector Protein 5 (CDC42EP5)

CEP5; Borg3; Binder of Rho GTPases 3

CDC42 Effector Protein 5 (CDC42EP5)
CDC42EP5 is a member of the Borg family of CDC42 effector proteins. Borg family proteins contain a CRIB (Cdc42/Rac interactive-binding) domain. They bind to, and negatively regulate the function of, CDC42. The specific function of this protein has not yet been determined.
The predicted 150-amino acid mouse Borg3 protein contains a CRIB motif, followed by a conserved N-terminal 12-residue BORG homology-1 (BH1) domain, a central proline-rich domain, and a C-terminal 22-residue BH3 domain; mouse Borg3 lacks the BH2 domain found in other Borg proteins. Western blot analysis showed expression of a 15.5-kD protein. A more abundant transcript of 3.5 kb was detected in skeletal muscle.
