COBW Domain Containing Protein 1 (CBWD1)

Using subtractive hybridization to identify genes upregulated by dopamine in rat cerebral astrocytes, followed by screening a human fetal brain cDNA library, Shi et al. (2001) cloned CBWD1. The deduced protein shares weak homology with the Rhodobacter cobalamin synthesis protein and the Cyanobacterium hydrogenase expression/formation protein hypB.

By examining genes arising from intra- and interchromosomal duplications involving the ancestral chromosome 2 fusion site, Fan et al. (2002) identified CBWD1, CBWD2, and CBWD3. No 2 of the 3 CBWD paralogs are identical, but they all encode a deduced 395-amino acid protein containing a cobalamin synthetase W domain. Fan et al. (2002) also identified a CBWD1 splice variant lacking exons 9 and 10.kb.
