CUG Triplet Repeat, RNA Binding Protein 2 (CUGBP2)
Members of the CELF/BRUNOL protein family contain two N-terminal RNA recognition motif (RRM) domains, one C-terminal RRM domain, and a divergent segment of 160-230 aa between the second and third RRM domains. Mouse Etr3 was found to have a molecular weight of 50 kD and displayed a high level of homology with CUGBP protein. Organization of the RNA-binding domains within the Etr3 molecule was similar to one within CUGBP. A study of mouse Etr3 RNA-binding activity showed that mouse Etr3 bound to (CUG)8 repeats; sequence analysis indicated the presence of several CUG repeats within the mouse Etr3 mRNA. The authors found that in humans ETR3 mRNA was highly expressed in the heart but was undetectable in other tissues.
