Calcium/Calmodulin Dependent Protein Kinase II Delta (CAMK2d)

CAMKD; Calcium/Calmodulin-Dependent Protein Kinase Type II Delta Chain

Calcium/Calmodulin Dependent Protein Kinase II Delta (CAMK2d)
CAMK2D belongs to a family of type II multifunctional calcium- and calmodulin-dependent protein kinases. There are at least 4 CAMK2 genes, and each can yield several isoforms through alternative splicing. CAMK2 isoforms assemble into homo- or heteromultimeric holoenzymes composed of 8 to 12 subunits.Calcium signaling is crucial for several aspects of plasticity at glutamatergic synapses.
In mammalian cells, the enzyme is composed of four different chains: alpha, beta, gamma, and delta. The product of this gene is a delta chain. Four alternatively spliced transcript variants that encode three different isoforms have been characterized to date. Distinct isoforms of this chain have different expression patterns.
