Caspase Recruitment Domain Family, Member 6 (CARD6)
CARD6 encodes a protein that contains a caspase recruitment domain (CARD), an antiparallel six-helical bundle that mediates homotypic protein-protein interactions. The encoded protein is a microtubule-associated protein that has been shown to interact with receptor-interacting protein kinases and positively modulate signal transduction pathways converging on activation of the inducible transcription factor NF-kB.
The deduced 311-amino acid protein contains an N-terminal CARD covering its first 91 amino acids, followed by several potential phosphorylation sites. Northern blot analysis detected a 4.4-kb transcript in all tissues examined except brain, and a 6.3-kb transcript in heart and skeletal muscle only.
