Centromere Protein L (CENPL)
CENPL is a subunit of a CENPH-CENPI-associated centromeric complex that targets CENPA to centromeres and is required for proper kinetochore function and mitotic progression.Using the chicken Cenpl sequence, Okada et al. (2006) cloned human CENPL from a HeLa cell cDNA library (Fukagawa, 2007). The deduced protein contains 344 amino acids.By mass spectrometric analysis of proteins immunoprecipitated with CENPH or CENPI antibodies in HeLa cells, Okada et al. (2006) identified CENPL as a component of the CENPH-CENPI centromeric complex. The centromeric localization of Cenpl was lost in chicken B cells deficient in Cenph, Cenpi, Cenpk, and Cenpm. Using small interfering RNA in HeLa cells, Okada et al. (2006) found that CENPL depletion resulted in abnormal mitotic cells.
