Centromere Protein P (CENPP)

CENP-P

Centromere Protein P (CENPP)
CENPP is a subunit of a CENPH-CENPI-associated centromeric complex that targets CENPA to centromeres and is required for proper kinetochore function and mitotic progression.
The deduced protein contains 288 amino acids and has an apparent molecular mass of 33.2 kD by SDS-PAGE. Fluorescence-tagged CENPP localized to centromeres throughout the cell cycle.Deletion of Cenpp in a chicken B-cell line resulted in viable cells that grew slower than controls; knockout of CENPP in HeLa cells also reduced the rate of growth. Loss of CENPP in human and chicken cells did not alter the localization of other CENPH-CENPI centromeric complex components. Since cells deficient in CENPP were similar to those deficient in CENPO, CENPQ, and CENP50 (MLF1IP).
