Cerebellar Degeneration Related Protein 1 (CDR1)

CDR; CDR34; CDR62A

Cerebellar Degeneration Related Protein 1 (CDR1)
The corresponding antigen is designated cerebellar degeneration protein (CDR). Cloned cDNA for the protein has been isolated and characterized. The human CDR gene is in single copy and encodes a protein with a distinctive tandemly repeated structure. It is predominantly expressed in normal neuroectodermal tissues and in certain malignant tumors.
The entire hexapeptide repetitive sequence of the molecule is encoded by a single exon. Examination of corresponding mouse cDNA clones revealed similar hexapeptide repeating units and a highly conserved glu-asp core in each repetitive unit. Somatic cell hybrid analysis was used to map CDR34 to both human and mouse X chromosomes.
