Chaperonin Containing TCP1, Subunit 8 Like Protein 2 (CCT8L2)

Presence of two highly similar CCT8L genes (CCT8L1 and CCT8L2) in the genomes of human and chimp and of a single copy in other mammal genomes, including rhesus monkey, suggests that the duplication of this gene occurred in the ape lineage after its divergence from the old-world monkeys.

Constrained evolution was also estimated for the CCT8L genes of armadillo and rhesus monkey, and for human CCT8L1 and human and chimp CCT8L2 after divergence of human and chimp, although in these cases Ka/Ks values did not reach significance. In the cases of the human and chimp CCT8L1 and CCT8L2 genes, the lack of significance can be related to the loss of power of the test since few mutations accumulated after separation of these sequences.
