Chromosome 11 Open Reading Frame 24 (C11orf24)

Chromosome 11 Open Reading Frame 24 (C11orf24)
By sequencing the IDDM4 region of chromosome 11, followed by database analysis, Twells et al. (2001) cloned C11ORF24. The deduced 449-amino acid protein has a calculated molecular mass of 46.1 kD and contains a signal sequence. Northern blot analysis detected high expression of a 1.9-kb transcript in heart, placenta, liver, pancreas, and colon. Lower levels were detected in brain, lung, skeletal muscle, kidney, spleen, prostate, testis, ovary, and small intestine, and very low levels were detected in thymus and leukocytes.Twells et al. (2001) determined that the C11ORF24 gene contains 4 exons and spans about 10.4 kb. The fourth exon contains most of the coding sequence.By analysis of BAC and PAC clones, Twells et al. (2001) mapped the C11ORF24 to chromosome 11q13.
