Nasopharyngeal Epithelium Specific Protein 1 (NESG1)
The deduced 386-amino acid NESG1 protein is predicted to be a soluble nuclear protein. NESG1 contains a number of potential phosphorylation sites.
Northern blot analysis detected an approximately 2.0-kb NESG1 transcript in nasopharyngeal epithelium and trachea but not in esophagus, stomach, large intestine, liver, cerebrum, heart, bladder, kidney, thymus, or lung. However, the authors identified ESTs derived from human fetal lung and a lung carcinoma that are homologous to NESG1 and suggested that the lung sample used for their Northern blot may have lacked bronchus epithelium. NESG1 may be specifically expressed in columnar ciliated epithelium.
