Coiled Coil Domain Containing Protein 28A (CCDC28A)

Coiled Coil Domain Containing Protein 28A (CCDC28A)
CCDC28A is located in a region close to the locus of the pseudogene of chemokine (C-C motif) receptor-like 1 on chromosome 6. The specific function of this gene has not yet been determined.
Badano et al. (2006) hypothesized that loci encoding proteins pertinent to the Bardet-Biedl syndrome (BBS) functional circuit would be strong candidates to contribute modifying alleles. To identify such loci, they performed multiple rounds of yeast 2-hybrid screens and identified more than 60 putative interactors. The 241-amino acid computationally predicted protein bore no recognizable motifs and interacted with BBS4 in yeast. Badano et al. (2006) found that the pericentriolar MGC1203 protein interacts and colocalizes with BBS proteins, and specifically localizes near centrosomes and basal bodies of HeLa or IMCD3 cells.
