Collagen And Calcium Binding EGF Domain Containing Protein 1 (CCBE1)
CCBE1 is thought to function in extracellular matrix remodeling and migration. It is predominantly expressed in the ovary, but down regulated in ovarian cancer cell lines and primary carcinomas, suggesting its role as a tumor suppressor.
By sequencing clones obtained from a size-fractionated fetal brain cDNA library, Nagase et al. (2001) cloned CCBE1, which they designated KIAA1983.
The transcript contains a repetitive element in its 3-prime end, and the deduced protein contains 418 amino acids. RT-PCR ELISA detected highest expression in ovary and much lower expression in fetal liver and in adult lung, liver, and kidney. Much weaker expression was detected in all other adult and fetal tissues examined.
