Component Of Oligomeric Golgi Complex 1 (COG1)

LDLB; Low Density Lipoprotein Receptor Defect B Complementing; Conserved oligomeric Golgi complex subunit 1

Component Of Oligomeric Golgi Complex 1 (COG1)
COG1 is one of eight proteins (Cog1-8) which form a Golgi-localized complex (COG) required for normal Golgi morphology and function. It is thought that this protein is required for steps in the normal medial and trans Golgi-associated processing of glycoconjugates and plays a role in the organization of the Golgi-localized complex.
The deduced 980-amino acid cytoplasmic human protein is 82% identical to the mouse sequence. Expression of the mouse gene in ldlB Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells corrected their LDLR deficiency, which includes N- and O-glycosylation defects. RT-PCR analysis detected ubiquitous expression that was highest in liver, testis, and ovary. Within brain, expression was highest in amygdala, subthalamic nucleus, thalamus, and cerebellum.
