Contactin 5 (CNTN5)
CNTN5 is a neural adhesion molecule of the contactin subgroup of the immunoglobulin superfamily. It contains 10 N-linked glycosylation sites. The cDNA for the longer isoform encodes a 1,100-amino acid protein that is homologous to the N terminus of rat Nb2. Northern blot analysis of brain regions revealed wide expression of 7.5-, 4.4-, and 2.2-kb transcripts, with highest levels in occipital lobe and amygdala, followed by cerebral cortex, frontal lobe, thalamus, and temporal lobe, and lowest levels in spinal cord, caudate nucleus, and corpus callosum. Comparative analysis indicated that this expression pattern is most similar to that of CNTN3 . Outside of brain, expression of 7.5- and 4.4-kb transcripts was moderate in thyroid, faint in placenta, and absent in other tissues.
