Copine V (CPNE5)

CPN5; COPN5

Copine V (CPNE5)
CPNE5 is one of several genes that encode a calcium-dependent protein containing two N-terminal type II C2 domains and an integrin A domain-like sequence in the C-terminus. Sequence analysis identified multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants but their full-length natures could not be determined.
By searching sequence databases for genes with sequence similarity to the Paramecium copine genes, Creutz et al. (1998) identified human ESTs corresponding to 5 copine genes, including copine V. Tripodis et al. (1998) physically mapped and cloned a 2.5-Mb chromosomal segment in 6p21.3-p21.2. They characterized a PAC clone that maps to 6p21 and contains the sequence of the EST defining CPNE5.
