Copine VII (CPNE7)

Copine VII (CPNE7)
CPNE7 encodes a member of the copine family, which is composed of calcium-dependent membrane-binding proteins. The gene product contains two N-terminal C2 domains and one von Willebrand factor A domain. The encoded protein may be involved in membrane trafficking. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
The CPNE7 cDNA encodes a 633-amino acid protein with 2 C2 domain motifs in the N terminus. The protein shares 57% and 44% sequence identity with CPNE6 and CPNE1, respectively. Northern blot analysis detected expression of a 2.6-kb transcript in brain, with barely detectable levels of expression in other tissues.
