Crystallin Zeta Like Protein 1 (CRYzL1)
CRYZL1 encodes a protein that has sequence similarity to zeta crystallin, also known as quinone oxidoreductase. This zeta crystallin-like protein also contains an NAD(P)H binding site. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been observed but their full-length nature has not been completely determined.
The open reading frame of the CRYZL1 cDNA predicts a 349-amino acid protein with a conserved NAD(P)H-binding site. Northern blot analysis showed that the CRYZL1 gene is ubiquitously expressed as a 1.4-kb transcript in human tissues. The CRYZL1 gene contains at least 12 exons and spans more than 35 kb.
