Cut Like Homeobox Protein 1 (CUX1)
CUX1 is a member of the homeodomain family of DNA binding proteins. It may regulate gene expression, morphogenesis, and differentiation and it may also play a role in the cell cycle progession. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants of this gene have been described, but the full-length nature of some of these variants has not been determined. The cDNA encoding CDP was obtained by immunoscreening a lambda-gt11 library with antibody raised against purified protein. The deduced primary amino acid sequence of CDP showed remarkable homology to the Drosophila homeoprotein cut with respect to the presence of a unique homeodomain and 'cut repeats.' As cut participates in determination of cell fate in several tissues in Drosophila, the similarity predicts a broad role for CDP in mammalian development.
