Cyclin Dependent Kinase Like Protein 1 (CDKL1)

KKIALRE; CDC2-Related Kinase 1; Serine/threonine-protein kinase KKIALRE

Cyclin Dependent Kinase Like Protein 1 (CDKL1)
KKIALRE protein shares 43% identity with CDC2.Northern blot analysis revealed that KKIALRE is expressed as 6- and 2.3-kb mRNAs in several human tissues, with the highest expression in kidney. KKIALRE was expressed only in ovary while KKIAMRE was expressed only in testis. Using immunofluorescence, they determined that overexpressed KKIALRE accumulated primarily in the nucleus, although a lower level was detected in the cytoplasm. Treatment of cultured cells with epidermal growth factor caused an increase in the activity of KKIALRE and KKIAMRE. However, this stimulation did not require phosphorylation of the conserved MAP kinase dual phosphorylation motif present in both kinases, leading the authors to conclude that KKIAMRE and KKIALRE are not functional members of the MAP kinase group.
