Dynactin 6 (DCTN6)

WS-3; Dynactin subunit p27

Dynactin 6 (DCTN6)
DCTN6 encoded by this gene contains an RGD (Arg-Gly-Asp) motif in the N-terminal region, which confers adhesive properties to macromolecular proteins like fibronectin. It shares a high degree of sequence similarity with the mouse homolog, which has been suggested to play a role in mitochondrial biogenesis. The exact biological function of this gene is not known. The deduced 190-amino acid protein has a calculated molecular mass of 20.7 kD. It has several hydrophobic stretches, 4 potential phosphorylation sites, 3 potential myristoylation sites, and an RGD motif that may mediate cell attachment. Northern blot analysis detected a DCTN6 transcript of about 1.0 kb in all tissues examined. Zoo blot analysis detected putative orthologs in other species, including yeast.
