Dynein, Light Chain, Tctex Type 1 (DYNLT1)
Cytoplasmic dynein is the major motor protein complex responsible for minus-end, microtubule-based motile processes. Each dynein complex consists of 2 heavy chains that have ATPase and motor activities, plus a group of accessory polypeptides. TCTEX1 is a dynein light chain involved in cargo binding.Tcte1, mapped in this region as overexpressed in t-homozygotes, may be a candidate gene for male sterility. Several human homologs of other genes located in the t-complex region of the murine genome had been assigned to the short and long arms of chromosome 6. The gene contains an open reading frame of 339 nucleotides encoding 113 amino acids. The predicted peptide of TCTEL1 shows 94% identity (100% similarity) with those of murine Tcte1. Northern blot analysis revealed a 0.9-kb transcript in all tissues examined.
