Dyslexia Susceptibility Protein 2 (DYLX2)
The KIAA0319 gene encodes a plasma membrane protein with a large, highly glycosylated, extracellular domain. This protein is proposed to function in adhesion and attachment and may play a role during neuronal migration in the developing brain. In addition, cleavage of the protein may play a role in intra- and extracellular signaling. The deduced 1,072-amino acid protein has an apparent molecular mass of over 100 kD by SDS-PAGE. RT-PCR detected low expression only in brain. The predicted size of the full-length protein is 116 kD. The transmembrane domain of the full-length KIAA0319 isoform was necessary for plasma membrane localization. The C6 domain was required for dimerization, and the transmembrane domain strengthened dimer interactions.
